Inspiration for George design...

This box turtle keeps visiting our porch and front yard.

Agness had a way with flowers!

We're finishing the production of Agness Rowlandson's 1849 sampler. The antique is back with its owner (Thank you, Kathy!) which means my easel that it was carefully sitting on for the last couple of years can be used for painting again! Agness should be ready next week!

Any relation to Agness?

I'm finishing up the instructions for a reproduction of an 1849 Quaker sampler and would love to get some information about the person who stitched it. Agness Rowlandson was just 11 years old when she "worked" this 304 x 303 piece.

A sneak peek at the model:

A website listing the marriages of St. Luke, in the Parish of Lowick, in the county of Lancashire, England includes an Agnes (one "s" instead of two.) Agness would have been 25 at the time.

Marriage: 25 May 1863 St Luke, Lowick, Lancashire, England
Thomas Ashburner - of full age Grocer Widower of Bent Hawes Colton
Agnes Rowlandson - of full age Spinster of Lowick Parsonage
    Groom's Father: Thomas Ashburner, Weaver
    Bride's Father: John Rowlandson, Yeoman
Witness: John Rowlandson; Jane Rowlandson; Sarah Rowlandson; John Turner
Married by Licence by: S. J. Clarke M.A. Offg. Minister
    Register: Marriages 1837 - 1872 from the Bishop's Transcripts, Page 32, Entry 65
    Source: LDS Film 1040312

I wonder if Spinster refers to unmarried or a spinner of wool.... Please let me know if you have more info on Agness.

Our Three New Designs

Thanks to Kathy Bonham for stitching More Thank Luck! It's on 30-count Tin Roof Gingham from Weeks Dye Works and with gorgeous DMC threads including two variegated colors: 4045 Evergreen Variations and 4180 Rose Petals Variations. Thanks to Liz Saylor from The DMC Corp. for providing those! The frame is from East Side Mouldings. It's called "This Old House" in Encyclopedia Brittanica Red.

And thanks for Sharon Schutjer for stitching Praise Ye The Lord. Needlepoint Silk provided the beautiful floss. It's stitched on 40-count Parchment from Weeks Dye Works. And a really special thanks to my sister Kathy who designed this in 2002 and rediscovered it a decade later. This is a great frame by Valley House Primitives. Thank you Janet and Mike!

Spring at Hawk Run Hollow was stitched amazingly fast (and to perfection!) by Carol Sims. Thanks also to her husband Skip for providing me photos along the way. Thanks so much to Needlepoint Silk for sending such beautiful flosses and to Janet and Mike from Valley House Primitives for creating the frame with the beautiful double scallop tombstone top. The linen is 40-count Straw from Weeks Dye Works.

Lucky Sampler?

I'm interrupting the Spring countdown to share this photo with you. I was photographing another CHS new release and was surprised to see a tiny rainbow at the bottom of the image. It seemed appropriate for the design, More Than Luck, which features a four leaf clover.

Each of the leaves of a four leaf clover are thought to have special meaning: One if for faith, one for hope, one for love and one for luck. I hope that this design brings you all four!

Spring ... Block 4

Is anyone else dreaming about a warm beach with white fluffy clouds?

Spring, Block 7

Here's hoping that the blizzard headed towards New England
 isn't as fierce as predicted!

Block 8 of Spring!

I don't think that I've ever seen a fig tree...
I love their low, wide shape and twisted roots!

Kathy's re-discovered design!

Here's a sneak peek at the design that Kathy created in 2002,
put aside and then came across a decade later!

I especially love the frame that Valley House Primitives built for this
(Profile: MCN in Redcoat with a Small Swirl design)

Countdown 'till Spring

Our area had another dusting of snow this morning, the third this week.
The deer living around our house don't seem to mind,
but we're really looking forward to spring!

In the meantime, here's Block 12 of Carriage House Samplings'
Spring at Hawk Run Hollow.

Thanks again to Carol Sims for stitching this so quickly... and perfectly!

Alphabet Blocks

Thanks to Isabelle Tasset from France for sharing her beautiful Alphabet Blocks, Whole Kit & Caboodle. She used DMC thread on a very old hand-woven linen cloth ...

. . . two cotton threads over one linen thread, using half stitches.

Congratulations, Isabelle!
